Metropolis GZM, Tychy and Orange Polska join forces to create a smart city

Remote water meter reading or reservation of parking spaces, and even benches which can charge mobile devices – these are just a few examples of solutions that can make life easier for urban dwellers. Metropolis GZM, the city of Tychy and Orange Polska, will cooperate on preparing recommendations and implementing solutions supporting the construction of a Smart City.

The work will begin with creation of a detailed concept of the Smart City, consulted with the scientific community.

Specific technological solutions formulated on the basis of the concept will be recommended for implementation.

The scope of planned activities is very broad. The proposed solutions include smart street lighting, remote water meter reading and monitoring of the water supply system, remote parking space reservation system, bike rentals, benches which can charge mobile devices, air quality monitoring system, city monitoring system, and other ways of increasing the functionality of the currently used urban devices, such as litter bins and bus shelters.

In September 2018, Orange Polska and Huawei launched a station supporting 5G technology in Gliwice. They are the first companies to conduct such tests in Poland outside the laboratory. The Metropolis area was chosen as the test site, because of the companies’ involvement in construction of the Smart City and their cooperation with Metropolis GZM which began in June.
